The Scantron Performance Series is a computer-adaptive assessment program designed to measure student progress in ELA, math and science. Questions are adjusted according to a student's individual performance, and results are available online immediately. Math tests are available for grades 2-9 nationally, and for grades 2-10 in select states. They can be administered in English or Spanish.
Pros: Aligned to the standards I teach • Assesses higher-order thinking • Assesses a range of students, including those from far below to far above grade level • Takes students a reasonable amount of time to complete
Pros: Results returned quickly • Helps me track my students' learning gains over the course of the school year • Data is presented clearly
Cons: Difficult to administer
I like the fact that the results are immediate and the questions are based on the student's ability not just their grade level.

It seems to be dynamic in that it can assess students at many different levels and includes higher order thinking questions. However it is difficult to use the data to inform instruction. I do not understand how to use the data to know where I am teaching well and where I need to improve, nor do I really know why students did poorly in one area over another especially when they only answered one question on that topic. Perhaps they just made a silly mistake. I'd rather know their thinking behind different areas of math rather than an arbitrary number score.
