A component of the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program, the Constructed Response Assessment features open-ended questions in ELA, math and science. The test questions were developed with input from Tennessee teachers. Math is measured in both 3rd and 7th grades.
Pros: Aligned to the standards I teach
Cons: Misses growth of some students, such as those far below and/or far above grade level • Takes students too long to complete
Pros: Easy to administer
Cons: Results are not returned quickly • Is not helpful to my professional growth as a teacher
Considering that as teachers we had to take the test ourselves to grade it as no answers were provided, and then we have to report the data back to the state it is a huge waste of time. It is time consuming to grade and the data can vary as the grading varies by teacher. No standard rubic with answers provided.

Pros: Aligned to the standards I teach • Assesses higher-order thinking • Assesses a range of students, including those from far below to far above grade level • Takes students a reasonable amount of time to complete
Pros: Easy to administer • Results returned quickly • Helps me track my students' learning gains over the course of the school year • Data is presented clearly • Data I receive helps me understand where I am teaching well and where I need to improve
This assessment tool provides a high amount of alignment, usefulness, and overall does a great job at giving the student an opportunity of getting the job done!

This is the greatest math assessment I have used. An accurate measure of what students know can be obtained through this assessment.
